Sane

Today I'm much calmer thank you, no trace of the psychotic mad woman of yesterday. The ride to Q's school this morning was a smooth one. Q's happy spirit and early morning chirpiness rubbed in on me. He was super excited as today was the first educational trip of the year for his school. They went to watch Geng: Upin & Ipin @ GSC KLCC.

He enjoyed it tremendously, despite the fact that he had never watched the tv series version before. He was smiling the whole time he was telling me of his adventure today :D

Ok, so. Adam watched that movie with cousin Alissa the week it started screening. Q watched it today with his teachers and friends. Ammar je belum sempat tengok and he pointed that fact out to me thrice today. Will pakat with Mr. AKO about it nanti.

Hmmnn... the Les' Copaque Production is far from being 'kopak' now no? he he

Teh Poci Melati

I sent Azfar Q early in the morning today, as Mr. AKO isn't around (usually Mr. AKO hantar, saya ambik lepas sekolah). As luck would have it, it was raining cats and dogs this morning. My eyesight is at it's poorest masa2 hujan lebat gini or waktu senja. My driving skill is more than adequate (rasanya la), but sans my eyeglasses in bad weather?I am forced to concentrate really hard on the road. Kaca mata saya screw longgar, maka kacanya tertanggal sebelah. Lady luck was certainly not smiling my way pagi tadi. Furthermore, I hardly slept what with feeding Azan and taking care of Adam who always sleep poorly when his daddy is not around. Thank goodness Q and Ammar dah besar, both slept soundly.

Mind you, from my house to Q's school is a long way. His school is in the city. Homaigod, tersiksanya mata rabun ini terbuntang-buntang melihat jalan yang antara nampak tak nampak dek hujan selebat2nya. A few times I nearly made the wrong turning but thanks to my co-pilot who is obviously more sharp than me, I turned the right of way just in time. Thanks Q! Your photographic visual memory saved your kelam-kabut mom again.

On the way back, the rain stopped. The trees, air and earth looked fresh and new. My heart smiled. In a crazy moment of stupidity, I rolled down the car window hoping to breathe in fresh air. I nearly suffocated from exhaust fumes and carbon dioxide! Pahhhhhh!!!!! I was a fool. I could almost hear Lady Luck cruel mirthless laugh, mocking me. Dayyymmmm you la Lady Luck!!!! Huwaaaaaaaa :((((

It took me 2 hours to and fro. The traffic was bad and 2 cars turned turtle. Beautiful morning it was not. I came home and threw myself on the bed in the guest bedroom downstairs. Bibik saw the sorry state I was in and made me jasmine tea, with real tea leaves. The tea that I use sparingly sebab susah nak dapat stok dia kat sini (kat Indonesia banyak la - Teh Poci Melati). I felt a little better.

The phone rang. My dad on the line.

Dad: Hantar Q dah ke?
Me: Dah, ni baru sampai rumah. Tadi hujan lebat, tak nampak jalan and bla bla bla bla bla..... ( oh god, why oh why I slipped back to my childish self tak malu betul).
Dad: Q habis pukul berapa petang ni? It's okay, I will fetch him.
Me: Ye ke? Okay, thank you :)))

Wheeeeeeee!!!!

Pheww, this is a rather long post eh? Biasalah, Mr. AKO takde ni, I have nobody to layan/listen (or pretend to listen) to my pok pek pok pek. Ok ok, I gotta go. Till next time folks.

Pejam Celik

U hu hu hu.

Not feeling so lighthearted and cheery cheery today :(
Mr. AKO left for Jakarta petang tadi.
So, I shall have to helm the family boat for a few days until he comes back.

He will be back by Friday.
He reminded me it won't be long and pejam celik pejam celik je, he will be back home.
I know.
But still.
I'm hopeless I know.

3 pages

Those close to me and my family, knows that my firstborn son have always been fascinated by numbers. When he was younger, whenever we go to Toys 'R' Us, he would always look for the magnetic plastic numbers, number puzzles or anything related to numbers and counting. Everything he sees around him he will relate to numbers. For example, the alphabet A - Z. This happened when he was 5 years old.

Q: Mummy, what number is K?
M: K is not a number la dear. It's an alphabet.
Q: K is 11
M: What? (Mummy scratches head)
Q: R is 18, mummy.
M: Owhhh (at last beginning to 'get it'). What about V?
Q: 22 (he answered without missing a beat)
I tested him again and again and again. He never once answered wrongly. Each time he answered promptly and confidently, without any hesitation. It was I who terkebil2 kira betul ke tak jawapan dia.

OK. That was an example. I will share other such examples in my future posts (if my brain can recall them that is, I hope so). Naturally in progression to that, his favourite subject is Mathematics. Everyday, at 4.30 pm he will go into the study room and call me in for 'tuition' time. Yeah, not the other way around ;) He will insist on doing Maths work first. And he will set a limit. He will do a total of 3 pages each time. Then he will choose another subject. It's always Maths first, then another subject. Of his own choosing. He will choose, and do his work. Like auto-pilot. I never push him, or demand that he do that. That's Azfar Q for you. He keeps me on my toes, all I want is to 'ponteng' tutoring him (not that I do much teaching pun, mostly I will sit next to him and surf the internet - ahemmnn). Here is a pic of him doing his usual 3 pages of workbook petang tadi. Yes, doing sums.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that my son is a Maths genius or anything. He is not doing higher level Maths or anything of the sort. Just wanted to share with you of his love for numbers and his enjoyment of doing sums.

Sedapnye

BabyAzan is following the footsteps of the 3 elder Superheroes. He has a very healthy appetite! Whenever it's mamam time, he will watch bibik prepare his food with much zest and you can see the anticipation on his face. He he he.. and his lips will be making smacking actions... funny boy! He likes mashed banana and also papaya :)

Happy full tummy equals smiley face

Crave

In these sweltering hot months in our beloved Malaysia, I yearn to go to this particular area shown in the map below. It's a very special place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Apa ada kat situ?

Leon's Frozen Custard Drive-In. Home of the world's finest frozen custard. A Milwaukee favourite since 1942.

Frozen custard flavours include chocolate, vanilla (sedap giler), butter pecan (my favourite), strawberry, raspberry, mint, maple walnut, cinnamon. And hot fudge sundae dia is to die for! For fans of banana splits, Leon's can't be beat. Their malts and shakes are prepared the old fashioned way, very thick and creamy and yummmmyyyyy. Aiseyyyy, nak kena pegi carik ice-cream la pasni, tapi tak sama cam Leon's :(

Malaysian 1st Inline Hockey Tournament

Remember my previous post, the one where I mentioned Mr. AKO took part in the Malaysian 1st Inline Hockey Tournament? 10 teams participated. Teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Phillippines. There were four teams from Malaysia, one of it being Mr. AKO's team O'Stars.

The champions were the Piranhas team (Singapore), 2nd place Urban (Singapore) and 3rd place O'Stars (Malaysia). Yeaayyyy!!! Third place is not bad lah, they could do so much better if they had practised more. Hmmnn... tak sangka, dah tua-tua (ahemmnn) pun boleh menang lagi ye. Kira O'Stars team ni best in Malaysia lah ye?

Here they are. The O'Stars team in a group photo.
Congratulations guys!!!

Nasib Ketam

Hello People! How was your weekend?Hope it was a pleasant one. Mine was quite relaxing and nice. Ammar's taekwondo class on Saturday morning was cancelled as the instructor met with an accident. He's fine but was rather traumatized(sp?) by it. Hope he is feeling much better.

Mr. AKO and I went to Pasar Tani in the early morning and did our shopping, bought more fish and ditched the red meat. He he ni attempt nak eat healthy. Quite good selection of fish jugak lah (by Pasar Tani's standard) mana boleh lawan freshly caught seafood available at pasars along the coastal areas kan.

Later in the evening Adam went for a movie with his cousin Alissa while Q and Ammar went to their Nena's house. We sent Bibik to my mom's jugak to give her a hand as she is bibikless now. Kesian my mom.

So Mr. AKO and I kat rumah with BabyAzan, just enjoying the rare peace and quiet :) Next day on the Sunday, I cooked spaghetti bolognaise. He he, senang aje kan. Did a little housework and just lepak. Petang sikit went to my parents' to pick up Q, Ammar and Bibik. So that was my weekend :)

Okay, today masak the ketam that my SIL bought for us.

Tension

Been a little stressed out lately. Many said cooking is a great stress reliever, so hence.

Mr. AKO was right pleased with them lauks yesterday.

Malaysian's favourite breakfast, Nasi Lemak.

And these nangka must be the sweetest and most fragrant nangka in the whole of Tanah Melayu. Nurtured by my Father In Law. Sangat manis, sangat wangi, sangat sedap!

A Month

Today marks exactly a month since my 'hijrah'. Alhamdulillah.

Fish for Thoughts

A conversation between me and my second son Ammar which took place during lunch earlier today.

M: Ammar, it's good if u can finish your food. As you know, wastage is bad kan.
A: Ya Mummy I know. I will eat all the rice and tofu, mmmm yummy.

M: What about the fish?
A: Errr... I will eat the fish. But, do I have to finish it?

M:  Of course. I thought you like fish? Eating fish can help your brains to become very clever tau.
A: Ok Ok. Mummy, tadi in school A punched my right eye. And B hit my tum-tums. Hurts a little bit.

M: Oh My! You sure they did that? Just a little friendly playing right?
A: Yah they did Mummy. You know why? They did not eat fish for their brains (points to head). That's why la.

M: OOoooppssssiee

Stars Shining

Mr. AKO called 5 minutes earlier informing me that the 'Old Stars' team has reached semi-finals. Wow! Congrats lah. Imagine, the team only started training a month ago about once or twice a week, all of them in their thirties. Some haven't played for years already. Some played with their old falling apart equipments, and some with borrowed ones. Played against younger teams, most in their early and mid-twenties, who trained consistently. The teams are not only from Malaysia, mind you.

Okay, good going Old Stars ;-)

Let's see whether they make it to the finals. As for being champions, errr.... a bit susah la I think (bukan sbb I pessimistic). Heard the team from KiasuLand is superfast, too fast. But to me, if the old stars have bee practising at least for the past 3 -4 months, maybe boleh 'kitai' kot bebudak tuh. Chewahhh!!!

Goooooooooo Team!!!!

Jadi bila saya memasak kari kambing, dia sangat teruja.
